Family Friday: Putt Putt at Go USA!

For the past few weeks, Mike and I have been trying to have family fun nights every Friday. Though I haven’t mentioned it to Mike, I think we should make it into a weekly or biweekly tradition. Even if it’s something as simple as staying indoors and renting a movie or playing a board game… it doesn’t have to be fancy. It just needs to be time together with a purpose, disconnected from phones and without obligations! Friday is a great night for it too. It’s been awesome having something to look forward to each week, especially come Wednesday when you can’t help but ask, “Is it Friday yet?”

Last week, we saw Night at the Museum 2, which was hilarious. Not as good as the first, but Hank Azaria was excellent as the villain of the flick. Oh, he made me laugh so hard when he was arguing with Ben Stiller. Nicholas really enjoyed seeing it. He is a great little movie-goer, despite the fact that he whispers questions to us through 90% of the movie. Have you ever seen the Ellen Degeneres stand-up special Here and Now? In it, she says that she hates going to the movies with people who talk and ask questions about the movie like, “Where is she going? What is she going to do? What is she going to say?” It’s one of mine and Mike’s favorite parts and when either of us asks a dumb quetsion about something we’re watching together, the other of us will quote Ellen by saying, “I don’t know. Let’s watch and find out together, shall we?” (By the way, if you haven’t seen Here and Now but call yourself an Ellen fan, shame on you! It’s my favorite of her stand-up specials. You must see it.)

That has nothing to do with anything except to say that Nick is apparently one of those people to whom Ellen is referring.

This past week for Family Friday, we piled into the car and went to Go USA in Murfreesboro to play Putt Putt golf. The weather was perfect for it, and if I recall correctly, Nick hadn’t been to play putt putt since he was two, almost three, years old (Labor Day of 2007!) He couldn’t remember it when we asked him if it sounded like something he’d like to do for our family night, but he was quick at getting back into the swing of it, no pun intended. Mike and I managed to tie in score somehow, despite the fact that I had two holes in one on the back nine! (I guess that pretty much gives away how terrible I did on some of the other holes.) Nicholas scored about 13 points more than us, but it was seriously not a bad score considering he’s four years old. He really enjoyed it and was super patient considering that we had to wait our turn on every single hole. Apparently, everyone wanted to putt putt that night.

You can see some of our pics on my Facebook.

Afterwards, Mike and Nicholas rode Go Karts while I filmed all the excitement. Nick has been wanting to ride Go Karts for about two months now, so he was on cloud nine the whole time! You can see a riveting video of it below (Don’t lie. You’re totally jealous). Mike and Nick are in the green double kart. Nick waves to me everytime he passes.

Such a great night!
