Clean house, clean mind.

The toilets are clean. The tubs and sink are sparkling. The bathroom floors have been swept AND mopped. Well, I don’t mop. I get on my hands and knees and scrub. Mopping’s for sissies. 😛 The living room is straightened, the linens all washed and readied… The dishes are finishing up as we speak. Michael took Nicholas to the park and to get ice cream for some much needed father-son time. Life is truly good. And peaceful, if only for a moment.

Of course my house reeks of vinegar. I enjoy cleaning with baking soda and vinegar and water because it’s very environmentally friendly as well as non-toxic to my child, and it’s incredibly frugal. I almost feel sorta stupid for not cleaning with this stuff the past 9 years that I’ve been out of my mom’s house and on my own, responsible for cleaning my own stuff. Seriously dude, why did I ever think bleach was the best cleaner in the world? And how much money did I waste on cleaning and laundry products? (Don’t ask me about the great Oxyclean Fiasco of ’02.) I’m so glad I finally found a cleaner that is all the important things I need it to be- safe for my family and my planet, cheap, and easy to access.

However, it totally offends my nose. I cannot stand the smell of vinegar like that, all up in my face while I’m scrubbing the toilets or floors down. It smells a little like vomit to me and therefore it takes everything inside of me to not want to gag when I am cleaning. What to do other than wear a mask? Burn some incense and try not to focus on it? I dunno. Any tips would be appreciated.

Sure, a clean house makes me happy, but what else makes me smile today? How about my prayer shawl?! Why yes. Yes, it does. I’m nowhere near finished (It’s only 2 ft long– it should be more like 5 lol) but I love it. Ignore the bad angle and double chin. It’s very hard to take a picture of yourself and hold the work with your head so that it doesn’t slip off the needle and make you lose your place.

  1. I stocked up on Baking soda and Vingear yesterday. I plan on cleaning the bathrooms today. Maybe if I light a good scented candle it will eliminate some of that “I’m making a volcano in my bathroom” smell.

  2. Read my blog. I think I solved the stinky vinegar problem. =o)
